What are the guidelines for harvesting and how does Starker Forests decide when and what to harvest?

Prior to any harvest, the following elements are considered (along with many more):

• Starker Forests, Inc. goals
  • Monetary
  • What is best for the forest
• Silvicultural priorities (The care and cultivation of forest trees)
  • Stand density
• Salvage
• Access to prospective harvest sites
  • condition of roads
  • landing location
• Distance from other harvest units
• Markets for various products
• Operator availability

Harvest unit selection is ultimately made by Bond and Barte Starker, but several foresters are involved in developing recommendations which are then submitted to Bond and Barte.
